Cadets is back this weekend – Saturday 13th April
Cadets starts this weekend at 9:30. The water is going to be cold so make sure you are wearing lots of kit. If you think its too cold to go sailing come down and have a hot chocolate and watch, hopefully the warmer weather is just around the corner. The Galley will be open from 10.30am to 12.30pm.
Cadets No. 1 from the 1st Wednesday Evening Race
So that Cadets can get off to an early start (and hopefully finish), the sailing committee has decided to move the Cadet fleet to the start of the sequence for all races. The new starting sequence will come into action on the first Wednesday evening race on the 3rd April and for all club racing thereafter. The upshot will be that some of the faster boats that start later will need to take extra care when sailing through the slower (although some not so slow!) fleets.
Friday Fun Night Catering
There are seven fun nights planned for this year and Tracey is trying to find volunteers to cater for each event. A provisional menu is show to the left and she needs at least 3 people to help each session. This would involve purchasing food, making the dish, serving on the evening and clearing up. If you are able to help and would prefer to make something else the menu is flexible providing a vegetarian alternative is offered. Last year we charged £3.50 and all profits went directly to the club. Please contact Tracey (Galley Secretary) if you are able to help.
Cadet Catering Spring/Summer 2013
A big thank you all for the tremendous support you gave last year to organising and helping in the above events. The cadet galley managed to raise £1000 despite several sessions not running due to inclement weather! It would be fantastic if we could continue to raise both cadet and club funds by supporting these events. The cadet galley will run 10 – 1 on every date scheduled cadet activities. For those dates an open competition is on Mickey needs full run of the galley so no volunteers are required then although cadets will be on as usual. If people wish I can ask Mickey if she would mind opening early on those dates to cover for cadets. At times it got very busy last year and realistically I need at least 2 volunteers to help each week. This will involve making filled rolls, serving at the counter and helping to clear up. Homemade cakes went down a treat and even if you are unable to help in the galley can I request you make the odd cake or two throughout the season. I will be able to reimburse costs on provision of a receipt if required. As yet there is no definite decision on catering during cadet week. My understanding is that cadet parents would like the galley run by volunteers during cadet week with prices the same as Saturday mornings. In order for this to happen a greater number of volunteers are needed with one person ‘leading’ each day. I will be working during cadet week and will only be available to lead the galley on my day off. Once the season has started I will initiate a provisional rota and a final decision can be made depending on response. Please contact Tracey (Galley Secretary) if you are able to help.
Use of Club Boats – Oppies & RS Fevas
We have two Oppies and two Rs Fevas at the club. We would like to encourage their use by cadets and their competent parents. The club boats are to be used during regular Saturday morning cadets - all you need to do is ask the duty officer. Any cadets wishing to train up to be able to use them should notify us, so that we can arrange for someone to help you with this.

We should very much like the boats to be used at other club times and would love to see them racing. It is hoped that parents might introduce cadets to racing in the Fevas by crewing with their children or competent cadets crewing with younger cadets. If you don't want to commit to racing every week then we could arrange a team of crews whose results would be amalgamte at the end of the series.

Please refer to the "Use of Club Boats" for conditions of use, below. You will also find these in the front of the red signing-out book above the foil and sail box in the garage under the galley.

The following conditions of use have been proposed to help protect both the equipment and the crews using them. Please respect this so that others can enjoy them too.

• An adult must sign for the boat.

• An adult who is responsible for you must be present at the club whilst the boat is in use.

• Whoever takes the boat on the water, whether cadet or parent, must be competent in rigging, handling, doing the capsize drill, following the rules of the sea and storage.

• Please pay a fee of £3 into the honesty box, just inside the front door.

• Boats can only be used during designated club racing times, when a patrol boat is on the water.

• Boats should not be used in wind speeds of more than 16 knots.

• You are responsible for the boat and sails being stored properly.

• If these conditions are not followed this may result in you being banned from using any SBSC equipment.

Thank you for following these terms and conditions.

Cadets!
Cadets is open to all children who belong to the sailing club.

We meet up at the beginning of April, weather permitting, until the end of September, every Saturday morning.

Briefing is at 10:15 which you should attend with you boat rigged and you changed for a fun morning on the water!

We rely on parents being actively involved by helping with the patrol boats and being a beach master once in a while!

We hope you can come along!
