This is Who We Are

A new article on Yachts & Yachting:

Each colour of our club’s historic 1930s burgee represents a vibrant and different part of our club.

The first colour represented in our flag is our golden beach. This is our social events, “land” based activities and wider SBSC family that help keep things entertaining for all and running smoothly. In essence, the gold is all our not-on-the-water activities and not our members’ Olympic sailing successes, as you may have thought!

Our best activities include social events (such as dances, cycle time trial, live music, yoga, pub quizzes, circuit training), working parties with oodles of tea and cake, as well as the regular lunches and dinners in the club house. All of which is completed overlooking one of the best views in Hampshire: the Isle of Wight.

The sea is the second most prominent colour, represented by the blue. At Stokes Bay, we are super lucky to have direct access to the Solent and we can launch irrespective of the tide. Because of the shape of the bay too, we can get flat water one day, followed by big waves the next. We get a great sea breeze in the summer and this can come from east or west Solent so you’ll never get bored with the variety of conditions.

And finally: the racing. The red line though our club burgee represents the club start line and the racing that brings most members into the Stokie family. For club racing, we have fleet starts for Catamarans, Darts, Fast/Asymetrics, ILCAs, Dinghy Handicap and Cadets. From our youngest Cadets to our battle-hardened oldies, there is coaching and racing available for all.

Our regular Sunday and summer Wednesday evening racing is frequented by World, Euro and National Champions in each start as well as new learners and regular club racers. Cadet (kids) Club is on a Saturday morning is run by a multiple time Musto Skiff World Champion and if you’re (a little) older and not feeling up to club racing just yet, Adult Sailing where you can be coached by an Olympic Coach would get you well on your way.
