Welcome to the Stokes Bay SC bar.

Come and join the usual Friday night bunch - most are friendly and don’t bite much, however, due to the lack of Magners certain customers are a little irritable, but heroically making inroads on the Bulmers. (Sooner gone, sooner Magners will be back - keep up the good work Clive)

Friday night bar opening - 1900hrs till (well that depends on how many are in) usually 2300hrs but if busy will stay open longer - so come on and support the Club - what more could you want - good beer, good company and great views (& wonderful friendly bar staff - well most of them).

The real ale has made a good summer come back and is selling well, but could always do better. We are (as a rule) sticking to the weaker of the ales as this seems to be preferable to most members - but will occasionally put a stronger one on for special occasions.

Welcome to Shelley, who has taken over the Saturday 3pm till 7pm slot - so come along and show her she’s needed.

Here’s to a great sailing season with some great evenings - be sure to keep an eye on the Club web site for special events that are in the planning.

All the best!

Dave Bates, Bar Secretary

Joan's Galley Gossip....

For those of you who haven't been to the Club all winter, let me introduce you to our Galley Chef, Bill. Bill comes to us from the West End...of Gosport that is - he lives in Lee on Solent... and has been with us for the past 6 months. He has a wealth of catering experience. 35 years in fact, resident caterer at Camper & Nicholson for several years and various mobile catering vans specialising in open air events and food for the media on location. Even so, Bill has found time to father 6 children: 2 delightful little boys, Ben and Tom; and 4 beautiful girls (future staff ensured - nice one Bill!) and there's wife Sue who helps out with our big events. Bill thoroughly enjoys being at Stokes Bay Sailing Club and welcomes your comments and helpful suggestions. There's also a 'Comments Book' outside the Galley for your use, but he loves a chat, so talk to him - he's got a wicked sense of humour. New lines now being added to the Galley menu include various cereals for breakfast (quick counter snacks for those in a hurry to catch the fleet), giant Yorkshire puddings filled with mash, sausages and onion gravy - they looked yummy last Sunday, as did the chicken curry with naan bread and the chunky vegetable soup. The pasta dishes are a sell-out and the bacon is the best you can get. As if that wasn't enough, you can have 'Bill's Belles' to attend to your needs: Jess, Stacey, Mia and daughter Charlotte. Always looking smart and smiley, even when you don't return your dishes to the hatch.... The Galley is open every Sunday from 9am onwards for breakfast, lunches and snacks, and on a Wednesday evening from 1800hrs when sailing starts on 4 April for snacks and evening meals. Saturdays have always been a problem. We never get the uptake to make opening viable - everyone seems to be dashing off before the wife realises they are missing! However the situation is always under review. And that's your Galley update from Joan!
